TEACHER’S DAY (2016) (Project 2)

I actually did not plan to do this event. I was offered to do this event by one of our teachers. Firstly, I was really glad that they thought that I am responsible enough to do this event. I was really obliged to grab this opportunity but this was a new challenge for me. The event actually requires a lot of planning and time but I had the time of only two weeks. In this two weeks, I need to make sure that we are ready with a performance of at-least two hours. Also, This was the first time I was doing this event alone. But I was ready to undertake a new challenge.

After taking this new challenge, I knew that I had to plan things up alone in an appropriate manner. In a way which will divide up things. I have planned the tasks, I decided to have three groups. The first group, on taking care of gifts, the second group on making the skit and movie and third group was about dance. After the planning, I had decided to be head of the second group and initiated in group two and three. I had written the script, produced and as well directed the script, acted in it and in group 3 I have danced in the third group.

While doing this activity, it was hectic because we really had less time and my schedule was getting affected because of the event. I still managed and realized that even in this less time I could plan well and go according to it. I always knew that I am good in convincing people but this time it was really different. I really thought that people will not agree in this short notice and there will be fewer volunteers. But when I actually introduced them and told them about the event, after few conversations they showed the interest and they tried to manage their timings and initiate. One of the difficult things was handling this many people together and work with them collaboratively. I have to make sure that everyone gets equal part in the event without any clashes and problems. One of the biggest positives of this event was that everyone participated and came out from their comfort zone. I able to convince nondancers to dance, not actors to act and convinced introverts to work in this big group and communicate with them. While doing this activity I realized that I don’t know how to make a movie video, I learned it from my friends and used my past experience to make it. I also learnt new features about using it.   I have to contact the other two heads every day about the progress, especially the group 3.

At the end, I  enjoyed this event and was glad to take and complete this opportunity.

@FSMUN RELOADED 2016

Fountainhead School Model United Nations is an event. This is the third time the school is having this event. I volunteered in this event because my friend was head in this event. I was assigned to the food department head. I was a food head before but this was all new experience. This event was quite big. For this screen-shot-2016-12-16-at-11-29-39-amevent, we were given very less budget but we the items should be really fascinating and delicious. In here I have to plan for both cases I need to make a plan of food items and which place will be ready to give us.

One of the challenges in here was to work collaboratively. I had a junior head under me and a volunteer for the help. There was no problem between our communication or understanding. What became difficult was working under the head. It was very difficult to convince them because their expectations and choices were not in the given budget. Also I the location where this event was going to happen was quite far from the city, which added up the cost price in the food department. While doing the event I understood that I learned how to be more patient. Also with preparing for sponsorship I learned how to present myself as an event coordinator. I also realized that I often get upset if things are not working according to me. This then demotivates me and my work and energy gets the effect.

In this event, the budget given to me was less. It really got difficult but then I really got upset because I was not able to make my head happy at the starting stages because of zero results. But in last two weeks, Iscreen-shot-2016-12-16-at-11-30-36-am actually pulled my socks up and planned again. Found out a better solution to getting food from local places. This actually shortened the budget and maintained the essence of the food item.
On the D-Day, when the delegates, the participants, and the everyone were happy with the food. Their praising actually showed my efforts. Also, at the end, I was awarded title of the best department head.

@Make a Difference!! 2016

Our school is the only school which give admission to specially abled kids. I am really proud about it. We are always taught to accept them in the society and instead making the feel different we should treat them as one of us. I img_6593really care and believe that this message should be spread to other people. For that I participated in a social service and had gone to a school named Shree Nandan.
I decided to spending the whole with this specially abled kids. Our job in their was to spent time, make them laugh, make them feel special by giving attention to them. First I was given two kids to timg_6585ake care of and than we have to rotate. When I had introduced myself to them they were quite awkward with me at the starting and that created the difficulty. I had to make sure that I am making them feel comfortable. I have to keep talking to them, ask many question identify what they like and what they want. Because of lack of conversation I wasn’t able to understand what they want or what they want to do. My friend however already know them so she helped in understanding them. I decided not to give up that easily, and try more harder. I was glad that once the time spent they were also really comfortable with me. They initiated talking and playing with me. Than we had a blast. I realised that if I want to bring a smile I have to appreciate them even in the small things they do. While doing the img_6586activities and this service I realised, that they are really special. They are people who requires love to get better. Also, I have taken care of the ethical consideration when comes to not hurting one’s sentiments as well as physically.
At the end we also have to dance for  them and with them. We danced the way they danced and that was something which made them aware that we all are same. While ending up the session, they want that we come and meet them and don’t forget them. This was the first service which actually made me realise that I am doing something to make a difference.

@SUO 2015

This is Surat Ultimate organization 2015. A open- Frisbee sports event. It  is one of the school event. I volunteered in this event. I decided to be the head of the food department. Here my job was to plan and manage the meals of the event. I actually initiated as head alone for the first time. In this job, I had no partner as head nor volunteers under me. The reason of participating in this event was to take this as challenge and handle one department alone. I wanted to make the food conditions better than past year and memorable as well.
The event was there for two days. While planning the food I needed to make sure about few requirements of keeping food healthy, filling and as tasty as possible. The players should not feel sleepy. So I needed to take care about the food items I am deciding. In the planning process I was only told that I have to plan for three meal each day. I personally felt that for the players three meal are not enough. So, I decided to talk about this with the event planner. After the discussion I was glad that they considered my point and I was able to convince them about why is it important to add one more meal between lunch and dinner which is a high tea.
After the planning and finalising the food items. My most of the work was on day which was about taking care that food is reached on screen-shot-2016-12-16-at-11-46-31-amtime at all the three grounds (which were at different places). I completed my task alone and it head no issues on day and off day. After this event I was convinced that I can handle the job alone and complete the responsibility. I was glad at the end that I completed my job very well, was appraised by event head as well as the school head.

GYM

I never was very obsessed about how my body looked. I anyway joined the gym with few of my friends. My aim was to build muscles and build it in good shape. I wanted work my upper body more than my lower body, but even working on my lower body. My food habit is quite healthy so it was not a big problem. I thought gym is an easy task, but later I realized it is not very easy task. Every day I had to increase the weight so that I can progress.
In the beginning, I was able to lift the weighs which I thought would be heavy for me and even that without any external help.
First, few days my body used to get really tense and tired. It made me not continue on next day. I had to skip few classes because tense muscle. I learnt how to relax the tense muscle and recovered quickly then I got back to the routine. I was then consistent.
I had to wake up an hour early than my routine wake up schedule. Waking up early for football practice was not difficult because I was passionate about football whereas for the gym it was difficult but I kept pushing myself.
Ethical issues invoked in this activity was that I had work efficiently without any supervisor watching me. I had to make sure that I increase my intensity as per my progression. I had to be consistence and not lift weight for just sake of doing it. I had to make sure I improve my strength by following the daily routine without skip days. This made feel confident about my body.

As I continued for a month, I was more confident and motivated. I continued gym for two more months. Now I can see the benefit of the gym. I was able to build muscles not very huge muscles but I was able to convert my fat into muscle which is a big achievement for me. My main focus was on strength training because cardio is done when I play soccer. In the beginning, the difficulty I faced was being consistent for the gym because getting huge muscles in a week workout are not possible. This is what I learnt that to achieve something you have show consistency in your hard work.

Some of the exercises I performed were :

  • Chest seated rowing
  • Barbel rowing
  • Push ups
  • Lat pull down
  • Pull ups
  • Barbel curl
  • Dumbbell curl
  • Crunches
  • Bench press
  • Skull crush
  • Barbell squat
  • Leg press
  • Leg extension

Plantation(KV school)

We were required to go to KV school for plantation early in the morning. There were couple of my friends. It was on weekends so we had sufficient time to complete the activity. All the resources were available there. We just had to be ready to work. There was struggle due to unfamiliar situation which made the activity more interesting.
As I have done plantation earlier, I was able to perform it without any hesitation so my strength was I had knowledge about techniques and method of plantation. I was able to put that knowledge into action.
The one of the difficulty we faced during the plantation was that it was monsoon season so there was heavy rain. I thought it is not possible to plant trees in rain because there was too much water water so water would fill up the hole and plant might not grow. But the sir told us it is not a problem if you plant in soil with lot of water. The water will be absorb by the soil later and plant would grow.
I always wanted to keep participating in any kind of plantation activity because trees have very important role in our life as we breath because of trees. It is essential for us to keep planting trees so that us and our next generations don’t face difficulty in the future.
As it was raining, digging and planting became difficult. It took lot more man power than it took during plantation activity in vansda so it tend to give us ideas to leave covering plant base in soil halfway. However, I still did not give up. I dig appropriate holes for all the trees I planted and covered it effectively. No matter how many obstacles there was we completed our task. The activity was tiring but it was satisfying and fun.

Organ Donation

screen-shot-2016-12-12-at-10-47-17-pm

*the man in the blue jacket.

U-turn is street fair conducted every sunday in my city Surat, people come here and show their talents and perform something for the locals. On 13th of august there is a Organ donation day, so one of my friend thought of making people aware about the importance of the donation of the organ after they die. Donating organ is very important and this activity led many people to sign an agreement to donate their organs when they die. There are very few organs available when needed for a transplant and this small activity/ Drama in front of people could solve one of the global issue.

This was the first time I would be performing in front of hundreds of people and it was in a form of drama. Drama is performed live, it has to be interesting then only people would watch it and the most important thing is not have fear while performing. So performing in front of local people and conveying our idea to them was difficult because some people seem very disinterested as the crowd would think this is some type of a lecture or it isn’t very relevant, we tried and acted the script 2 time but that didn’t work out, and that’s where we thought to improve our demonstration skills to communicate better; we now started off by shouting in hindi “SUNNOO SUNNOO SUNNOO” and that’s where we got the attention we needed. Again we had a fresh start with the act on organ donation, why is it necessary and spoke upon many more things. This way I showed commitment towards the activity, but at some point of time when no one seems to be interested from the crowd, still we tried again and again, which did made it persuasive to many adults. While working in a group we supported each other  by helping in learning the script and got ideas which could help to improve the effect of drama on the local public.

Make a Difference

This activity was about engaging yourself with the special kids. They just need a little effort from us to prove they are indeed really special and that’s what I learned from this activity. My friend organised this activity and asked us to participate,

So I thought to input my effort to teach and get them into activities like cricket or solving the puzzles. Being a well educated student it is my responsibility to teach someone who are not so capable and this activity is where I could demonstrate my skills.

There were many difficulties faced while doing this activity, while playing cricket, teaching the kids how to throw a ball was a difficult task too, but I showed my patience as they need time to develop themselves, so at the end they successfully learned and they had a smile on their face. This where you are called as a competent person and you’ve successfully applied skill while taking a challenge to teach someone something. In this activity the biggest challenge faced was, how to teach this kids? because they are somewhere different and they had to be taught in a different manner than others.

My friends have helped me a lot in this activity by teaching me about how to handle these kids and that’s what helped me while working collaboratively. So taking advice from an experienced person has helped me by teaching something relevant and in a way that the kids could understand too. I’ve put all of my effort in this activity because this is something special and different, I committed to stay calm and wanted to teach them about solving puzzles or playing cricket. Which is a very difficult task to do as the whole is different. screen-shot-2016-12-14-at-9-18-04-pm

Arts Special…

I have always liked to listen to songs, and more than that I have liked to sing along. I always hoped that I would learn singing and be able to perform some day. I was in grade 6 when  by chance I got selected for the inter house singing competition along with one of my friend and came 3rd. It was quite surprising…however there were just 4 participating entries and so the results did not seemed impossible. In grade 11, I suddenly decided to take up singing as my arts special and at least perform one song in front of an audience.

I was very excited  to learn and understand the concepts of singing. My  strengths were the interest and the curiosity I had for learning and practising singing (as singing amazingly, could not be considered as one of my strengths for obvious reasons). Moreover, gradually I realised that my voice was not as bad as I thought it was and that little bit of dedication and hard work would help me achieve what I wanted to. Additional, one of my important strengths were that I grasped things quickly. Therefore, I decided to attain as much knowledge and feedback as possible and learn wholesome amount of skills that I could in the available span of time.

I took up signing willingly and was confident I will be able to do my best. However, after attending few classes I started to loose my confidence. There were people who really sung brilliantly and I almost left like an outsider who knew nothing. Sir, who teched us signing did motivate all of us and never compared us with one another. Still, I was not able to again my confidence back. Later after some practice and the day when sir, said “Well done Jigyasha” was when I regained the faith in me. To add on, singing in front of the class and signing alone was quite embarrassing and difficult for me at first. Though, when I got used to it and noticed that all the people in my class never judged each other and instead motivated each other, was when I sang freely.

There were times when it was tedious to practise the same rhythm/song again and again and I found it useless to continue these classes. Also, there was academic pressure (all the deadlines, exams and everything was due soon) which drifted away my interest and dedication for singing. Luckily, I realised time management and polishing one skill at a time was an answer. I gave suitable amount of time for my academics and for signing and realised that it wasn’t such a great problems at all Additionally, I also accepted the fact that learning the same skilled again and again actually took me one step closer to being better at that skill and a better singer. These realizations kept be going and prevented me from not opting out form my singing classes.

After few classes it was announced that, in the AS Performance event we had to perform/ showcase all that we had learned during the AS classes (vocals). I was performing with two other girls from my grade. Both the girls were much better, in fact trained singer and I was just a beginner. This fact always kept me nervous and my confidence at level zero. I had difficulties matching with their pace, and it got difficult to sing  collaboratively.though, as a result of practising together and distributing selected line to each person our song came out beautifully, and all the three of us shined in our own different way. Even after many difficulties, on the day of our performance though i was very nervous our performance was quite impressive. It is very true that working together has its own benefits. We could cover up if one of us forget a part of the song, each of us got to sing and show our talents equally and our voices together created a magnificent impact.

All in all, it was a wonderful experience and if possible in future I would like to learn more. I do believe that music is one of the greater stress relievers. I often find myself singing songs when I am sad and that really cheers me up. Listening to songs and singing songs always makes me happy and songs always convey things that help you understand and relate to your life is a better way.

Math-Science Trivia – 2015

Maths-Science Trivia

This activity was a chance to reflect the prior knowledge learnt till grade 10. This was a very different and difficult activity for me to conduct and to make questions for the quiz with managing things for Grade 10 and Grade 9. Till this years we were asked to participate in the quiz and represent our school houses where teachers used to conduct and make questions for us but as we grew up and are in grade 11 a senior year the teachers and the school coordinators decided to let grade 11 and grade 12 make the competition tougher and take part in handling the activity by themselves.

It was a very unique activity to do, because this time we had to make questions and revive our prior learnt lessons to make the best out of what can be done to make a good competition. I also took help from the internet to find out more relevant questions. Everytime, I had to find a different question for both the grades from different topics which has to be tricky, it was very hard.   We had to work in a collaboration with grade 12 and with my classmates. It was my first to make question for the middle years or for the lower grades. I made and gave many suggestion to my teammates and few of them got approved, providing question for them was also a very difficult task too because it had to be easier to understand as they have limited time to guess and making the battle harder.

On the day before the trivia all the questions were organised and then the next day my classmates conducted and in front of a large audience we have to deliver the questions and had to cater the doubts also where we also have to control the audiences by not to disturb or prompt answer to the participant or to support them anyhow as this was a difficult task too. All went well and teachers appreciated the efforts we had put in.
